TDI's were put in rear wheel drive applications, the VW LT is one of them. Then there's the quattro Audis which were all wheel drive. A V6 tdi is not available in the US, unless you purchase a new boat/industrial motor to the tune of 20+ grand. You can also look into rendering a quattro transmission as RWD only,its not to terribly difficult to do
The 850/V70 had the 140bhp version of the 5cyl VW 2.5tdi. If anyone knows of information how to tune that engine to perform mpg like the 1.9tdi let me know - all my experience has lead me to believe it's at least 10mpg behind (the A4 & A6 have both engines and I'm pretty sure the 2.5 sups a lot more juice for the same driving style).

The Bosch diesel injection pumps used by VW in their ALH TDI engines have a fuel shutoff solenoid (N109) which is supposed to cut off fuel to the engine. The engine has been setting a DTC 17946 - Fuel Shutoff Solenoid (N109) P1538 - 35-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent I had an engine replacement at 252525km in my 2001 Jetta 1,9 TDI AHF. The replacement engine had between 60000-80000km on it. I drove it for 1800km then had a blowout on the highway at 4000rpm at a speed of 180km/h. 2006+ VW Touareg TDI and Audi Q7 TDI chip tune. The 2006-2008 VW Touareg TDI used a V10 with 550 lb-ft of torque. The engine's weak spots are the turbos and the transmission is the next weak spot if you raise power levels. There are chip tunes out there if you wish to proceed.

The earlier TDI's would be suited to golfs of the same era or the Vanagon conversion crowd. I installed an ALH into my Vanagon and had to fabricate everything and wire everything.
